World Series 2006 Game 3

Two years ago Nancy and I suffered through a horrible World Series Game 3 against the Red Sox in old Busch Stadium. The only saving grace was that we were fortunate enough to have tickets in the Stadium Club where the food was certainly much better than the stale nachos served in the bleachers. I must have eaten 35 pounds of peel 'em and eat 'em shrimp. While the Stadium Club was nice, it was terribly antiseptic. Let's not even talk about the outcome of that game or the World Series that year.

We were fortunate enough to be able to acquire tickets again this year, and although the ticket price was much more expensive than the Stadium Club tickets in 2004 it was definitely worth it. Chris Carpenter channeled the spirit of Bob Gibson and shut the Tigers down completely. We sat in section 239, row 8, seats 23 and 24. You'd think we'd have been ecstatic about aisle seats, but apparently everyone in our row had a bladder the size of George Bush's brain. We stood up and sat down more times than an 8 hour Catholic Mass.

Despite these facts

  • it was 40 degrees outside
  • the ticket prices were outrageous
  • we had to catch a 7:30 flight to Portland, Oregon the next morning
  • we spent the equivalent of Namibia's GDP on souvenirs
  • the aforementioned bladder control problems

it was the most fun we've had at a baseball game ever.

Both Nancy and I feel very fortunate that we were able to attend. If we never get to see another World Series live again, we'll always have this one to look back on.
