I realized in looking back at my postings on Robert that I completely skipped our last hangout. Nancy and I had Robert over the weekend before we left for Portland. We made Halloween cookies and cupcakes and decorated them with orange frosting and all kinds of little decorations. Robert seemed to have a good time helping us cook and decorate. He did eat a little too much of the candy so we had to go run around the neighborhood a little to burn off some energy.
Yesterday Nancy was sick so Robert and I went to the movies by ourselves. I gave Robert the choice of seeing Open Season or Flushed Away. (I think Flushed Away is a terrible name for a movie and the little slug creatures from the trailer seem awfully analogous to Mr. Hanky the Christmas Poo). Even though he had a Flushed Away toy that he got from McDonald's, he was adamant about seeing Open Season. After 30 minutes of driving around trying to find the theater in Alton ... the back of it faces the road and there are no signs ... we got our tickets and stared at the candy window. Robert chose Gummi Jolly Ranchers and I got buttered popcorn. We shared both during the movie although I had to take the Jolly Ranchers away and dole them out judiciously during the run of the movie.
The movie itself was not awful, but then again it was no Toy Story or Polar Express or Monsters, Inc. Generally it was likeable though. Robert thought it was very funny and I suppose that's all that really matters. I spent last Friday afternoon in a demo for Lightwave (a 3D modeling tool) and VT4 integration (a video editing tool) and I could see pieces of both in this movie. Leave it to me to try to apply a movie to something we could do at work. I have to admit the 3D modeling in this movie was better than most I've seen. I'm certainly not an expert on kid's movies though.
After the movie we went to Sonic where Robert got a kids meal (with toy), and I got delicious Tater Tots. Next time we are either going to watch basketball at SIU-E or we are going to make Nancy bowl with us.
