Caribbean Cruise - Day 1

We are now en route to our week long Caribbean cruise courtesy of my parents. Nancy and I get up early and eat a breakfast of scrambled eggs, oatmeal, sourdough toast, coffee, and juice. I eat a lot because it's going to be a very long day with limited food options. It turns out that I don't eat enough.

At 9:00 we head to US Bank to drop off some house inventory stuff in the safety deposit box; oh, and we get some money for the trip too. We head back home and at 10:00 take off in the truck. The flights were uneventful other than we were early on both legs. We only had an hour in Atlanta and going from one terminal to another via the tram certainly puts that hour to the test. We made it in plenty of time though. We landed in Miami a little early and after a long wait, our bags arrived. We called the hotel shuttle and he arrived in eventually.

By this time though I'm very hungry and extrememly irritable. Of course, the fleabag Days Inn my parents booked us in is nowhere near anything to eat. The hotel, and I use that term loosely, does have a club/lounge/restaurant. My folks had already ordered pizza so Nancy and I took a chance on the restaurant. The salsa and latin music playing was extremely loud, but despite the club's look, it turns out the food was fantastic. I had a churrasco steak, which is basically a marinated skirt steak. It came with mashed potatoes and a tomatillo/mint/parsley sauce. Very tasty. Nancy had a blackened chicken and mango salad. Both the chicken and steak had terrific flavor.

We headed back to the room after our cafe con leche and key lime pie. My parents still hadn't received their pizza so they went downstairs to the restaurant based on our recommendation. When they got back I hung out with my sister and Parker so I could give him the sketchbook and the book on M.C. Escher's art work. I explain to him how important it is to write and draw everything he sees on the trip. Hopefully he gets the point. I also gave Parker a whoopie cushion because I'm the fun uncle.
