A Wall Of Water

Every day I cross the Mississippi on my way to work. For several weeks the water level in the Chain of Rocks Canal has come within 15 feet of the top of the rocks, something I've only seen occasionally and certainly not in quite some time. The past couple of days have seen that level rise to almost cover the rocks. Something I've never seen before. You have to consider that I was tied up on a boat in Canton, MO during the Flood of '93 and I'm sure it covered the canal rocks then. I saw a lot of stuff come down the river in '93: whole boat docks, propane tanks, refrigerators, dead livestock, even a surfboard believe it or not. The last two days have shown me something I've never seen before and that's a solid wall of driftwood. I've never seen so much drift at one time. Big drift too; like whole trees. It's basically a current of driftwood.
John, if you're out working a trip now and headed up the Upper, get those fathometers out of the water or your going to lose them. Might want to carry a drift rake with you too. You're going to need it.
