Frank Thomas hit his 500th HR and on the same day Craig Biggio collected his 3000th hit. Unbelievable that both could happen on the same day. I choose to recognize Biggio's record. While Frank Thomas' 500 HR is legit, (he hasn't been linked to steroids and I personally don't think he ever took them), the fact is that he is a whining baby. Plus he went to Auburn, so he's got that going against him.
In my mind, the two players couldn't be any more different. Frank Thomas is a gigantic man who played both baseball and football in college. Craig Biggio is about as big as a popcorn fart. Frank Thomas whined and cried when the White Sox made Paul Konerko the everyday 1st basemen and made Frank the DH. Craig Biggio moved from catcher, to second base, to center field, and back to second base again; wherever the Astros asked him to play or bat he accommodated. Frank Thomas is not exactly cheered in Chicago. Craig Biggio is seen as a pillar of the Houston community.

500 HR is a great accomplishment that few have ever reached. I really don't mean to belittle the feat. Despite the fact that I am belittling it, Frank Thomas still deserves to take a back seat to Craig Biggio on this day. He'll probably whine and cry that he didn't get enough attention and that animosity will spill over into the clubhouse. Craig Biggio will probably go on record saying that he's just glad it's over and he wants to move on with trying to win games for the Astros.

Just so you don't think I'm unfairly picking on the Big Hurt. Frank Thomas was later thrown out of the game for arguing with the umpires. Craig Biggio was seen in the dugout visibly moved by the fan and teammate support.
