You think Mark Sweeney would like to punch Barry Bonds in the chops just once? Not only did Bonds throw Sweeney under the bus earlier this year by saying the amphetamines found in his bloodstream in a MLB test came from Mark Sweeney's locker, he overshadows Sweeney's milestone night. On a night when Barry Bonds hits home run 754, Mark Sweeney had hit number 151. That's pinch hit number 151, which puts him at second on the all time pinch hit list passing Manny Mota. He still has a long way to beat Lenny Harris, who no one argues is the king of the pinch hitters, but second place in any category that spans the annals of baseball is pretty significant. Pinch hitting may very well be the hardest job of all baseball players. You hardly ever start a game and you always have to be ready at a moments notice. It takes a unique kind of baseball player to be a good pinch hitter and even most really good hitters are not good at it. The fruits of Mark's workaday endeavors unfortunately got buried at the bottom of a San Francisco Chronicle article and isn't even mentioned in the Contra Costa Times. I find that to be appalling. While the rest of the world is focused on the home run record, I'm paying attention to what you've accomplished. Congratulations Mark Sweeney.
