Is it possible that Mississippi State could finish the regular season 8 - 4? That would be beyond any Mississippi State fan's wildest dreams, but that record in the SEC is an outstanding accomplishment from a team not expected to win more than three games. It appears that Sylvester Croom is recruiting top caliber talent and is also able to motivate them.
I happened to turn it to ESPN News to see if I could catch the score of the game on the crawl because it wasn't the game of the day shown in this region. (Instead I got Clemson/Wake Forest and Notre Dame/Air Force.) As luck would have it, The Pulse was showing the closing minute of the 1st half and Bama, leading 9-3, was 1st and goal. The State defense stuffed the run twice and on 3rd down called a corner blitz, which was exactly the side that Wilson was rolling out to. Wilson threw up an ill-advised duck and ten seconds later State had run back the interception 100 yards. Suddenly a commanding halftime lead turned into a deficit and I'm sure the Bama fans who had driven the hour and a half to Starkville were in a state of shock. Since I didn't get to see the game, I have to guess that the Tide was deflated in the 2nd half and State's defense continued to execute.
