I worked with a towboat pilot, Pat Buchler, who was a congressional page back in the mid 1970's. He came from a somewhat well connected New Orleans family and due to his good grades and probably some community service his connection got him a job as a page at age 13. He said that was clearly the turning point in his life. Before that time he was a straight A student. One month in Washington and he was drinking and smoking pot. A lot of towboaters told a lot of bullshit lies. No matter how wild the page stories got, I never thought Pat ever bullshitted me on any of them.
Pat still owes me $20 for the 1991 NBA Championship series. He was a die hard Lakers fan.
