When the NHL owners locked out the players three plus years ago, I said that would be it for me and hockey. As a boy growing up in the South I was never exposed to much hockey, so to take it away from me wasn't much punishment. Sure I attended six to ten games per year and watched it fairly religiously on TV, but I was never a die hard fan. When hockey returned I vowed to not watch it at all. And I didn't. Not once. In fact, I was so adamant about not watching hockey that I refused to eat anywhere that might be showing it on TV. Last year I at least allowed myself to indulgence to watch it, but I maybe only watched five minutes of one game. I haven't watched any this year at all. However, when Mike suggested the gang get together and spring for some decent tickets I decided to buck up.
Pretty decent game for my first time back. Blues skated very flat, centered the puck rarely, and failed to take advantage of the power play. In fairness, Florida's goalie played well, but it's not like he got a lot of quality shots at him. Big thanks to Mike for getting the seats though; blue line, penalty box side, on the Blues shoot twice end ... 5 rows from the glass. For the 3rd period I moved down to the 3rd row (because there were plenty of empty seats) I witnessed a pretty nice scrum along the boards in the final seconds of the game.
I probably still won't watch hockey the rest of the year.
