Every year in the spring a bunch of us get together for a fishing trip. This year we went back to Crab Orchard Lake. We finally got down there and the boat dropped around 1:00 pm, which is way too late to fish if you ask me. Not everyone's schedule works the same.
The lake is way up. So much so it's not easy putting in at the ramp right on Highway 13. Actually it's easy putting in. The tough part is finding a spot where you can pick up/drop off. We managed to do so.
Steve, Jay and I fished out of my boat. The weather was extremely windy and to jump over to the other fork where we've had some luck catching crappie required everyone getting wet. And for that trouble we were rewarded with very little. We tried a little bit of everything, but what worked best was minnows and jigs tipped with minnows. I used red and chartruese. There was a little action, punctuated with the word little. Jay managed to catch the cycle: bass, crappie, catfish, bluegill ... though technically the bluegill was really a rock bass. I caught three, but only one was a keeper. I missed two or three more. Here's a picture of Jay with the big bass of the day, a nice fat one that probably went close to three pounds.
