I'm in Fort Lauderdale, FL on a business trip and tonight we decided to roll over to Dolphins Stadium to watch the Marlins-Dodgers game. The last time I was in this stadium it was called Pro Player and I witnessed baseball history with the only instant replay ever used in a MLB game. As expected, there were plenty of tickets for sale and none of them available via scalper. We bought outfield seats and expected to be able to sit anywhere. It sort of worked like that. We were able to catch the Dodgers batting practice down close where we watched Andruw Jones deposit a half dozen balls in the stands, all of which were hit close to 425 feet each. It was quite a show.
Once the game started we were kicked out of the good seats. The Dodgers jumped out to a 6-1 lead but the Fish fought back to tie it at 6. It stayed that way through the drizzling rain until the top of the 9th when the Dodgers were able to string a couple hits together. We snuck down into the good seats for the 9th. Tim Saito came in and closed the door with several freaky gyro pitches ... or backdoor sliders.
Dan Uggla had an absolutely sick catch rolling into the stands and the next batter flied out to center on a fantastic dive by Alfredo Amezaga. No doubt the best two back to back defensive plays I've seen. Click on the link above to see the two catches. The Amezaga catch seems lame compared to the Uggla catch, but we were out in the outfield and saw the Amezaga catch from a great angle and it was a legitimately great catch. It just looks lame compared to Uggla.
Best t-shirt: 2 kids with Cabrera jerseys had duct taped over Cabrera's name and written on the duct tape was the word Maybin.
