We all quote movie lines, but one of my all time favorites (and one that I overuse a lot) is Harvey Korman's Don't get saucy with me Bernaise from Mel Brooks' History of the World Part 1. As a kid we watched a ton of Carol Burnett in syndication and I always looked forward to Tim Conway purposely making Korman laugh. Back then I didn't appreciate how much harder playing the straight man is, but looking back, Korman's straight man was pure comic genius. From any number of characters on Carol Burnett, to the utterly splendid Hedley Lamarr, to the simple, hilarious dandy of Count DeMoney, Korman's dead pan delivery in the midst of otherwise slapstick showed that the straight guy could be just as funny or funnier than the physical comedy he so brilliantly played off of.
Let's just say in my humble opinion the governor receives nothing today and in lieu of pay, I will be playing paddleball and respecting you sir with a good Harumph!
