Next weekend is the Verkamman family reunion, which is Nancy's mother's side of the family. They emigrated to the United States from The Netherlands for a tried and true reason. Religious persecution. Odd to think of when you think of the liberal Dutch, but from what I've read the Dutch authorities thought speaking in tongues was detrimental to the children. So they kicked out people involved in the upper echelons of the Pentecostal church, of which was Nancy's grandfather. He was promised a church in St. Louis, but when he got here that fell through. Instead he settled in Southern Illinois where he ministered to prisoners in the Illinois penal system. That is, in between going back to the Netherlands to bring more like minded folk to Southern Illinois.
So 50 plus years later our house is grand central for this event and Nancy asked me to put together some directions for everyone. I chose to exercise some design skills and a newfound desire to goof around with Adobe InDesign CS3.
