I haven't done any real writing lately mainly because I've been working on other, more pressing projects. I did find some time last week to hang out with Robert, although we didn't do much. I picked him up in plenty of time to eat lunch before the movie and after a short discussion we decided to get some Steak 'n Shake. I really like their fries, even though our friend Holly says they aren't user friendly. I think that's because you have to approach Steak 'n Shake fries from a different perspective. Instead of the one or two grab of fries like you might do with McDonald's (or if you live on the east side Wendy's), you have to grab a whole passel of Steak 'n Shake fries at once. You can't pussyfoot around with it either. Stick that big meaty paw in there, draw back a greasy mitt of salty, potato pod goodness, and just jam it in your gob. What's not user friendly about that? Speaking of friendly, our waitress was overly friendly; way too friendly for someone barely of legal age talking to a middle aged man with a wedding ring. It was downright embarrassing. OK, maybe she wasn't blatantly hitting on me. Maybe she was just trying to improve her tip. I'm just saying, you can improve your tip by providing efficient service, not necessarily by giving me the googly eye. Look, I understand you're not making a lot of tip money at Steak 'n Shake, but you don't have to resort to that kind of stuff just to improve your tip.
We timed the movie just right, missing out on all but the last preview. It's about the first time I've been 'late' to a movie and I don't feel like I missed a thing. I really wasn't sure what to expect from Wall-E because I read nothing about it. I had managed to see a trailer or two, but I don't think it gave me any idea about the story line. In my opinion, pretty much all of the Pixar movies have been excellent so I knew I wouldn't be disappointed. I did have one problem though. One of my co-workers had seen it and she said she didn't like it. I asked her if she had seen Kung Fu Panda and she said she liked it a lot. I've come to the conclusion that I shouldn't ask her opinion about movies ever again. Either that or I should ask her opinion and then take the opposite of it. I liked Wall-E a great deal and I thought it was a fantastic commentary on society at large. Yes, that message was probably far and above what little kids expected to get at the movies, but I suspect most of that went unnoticed. At least the commercialism aspect was over their heads. The don't create so much garbage and don't be a big fat lazy slob message probably got through. Normally I'd hate a propaganda film, but I think we can all agree that a message of less garbage and less lazy human sacks of fat is a good thing. Robert and I goofed around a little and looked at the river before I took him home.
I told Nancy about the movie when I got home and she said the far right blogs were all pissed off about the global warming message in the movie. Frankly, I saw very little of the global warming part. Lack of conservation, rampant commercialism, and lazy fatness were the themes I saw. I don't see how anyone can get upset at something like that.
