Aw man. I liked Skip Carey. He just had one of those unique voices like Vin Scully or Marty Brenneman or Ken 'Hawk' Harrelson. When I was a kid and cable was this fancy new thing with titty movies on HBO during the day, (three cheers for Emmanuelle), Braves baseball came on every night on TBS. I remember sitting with my dad watching Bob Horner, Dale Murphy, Glenn Hubbard, and my all time favorite baseball guy, Biff Pocaroba. My dad was a pretty big Braves fan over those years when they sucked pretty bad, but we watched them nonetheless. And listened to Skip Carey.
Just Thursday Nancy and I were going to eat sushi and instead of listening to the Cardinal broadcast on 550 AM, we listened to the game on XM. The Cards were playing the Braves at home and Skip Carey was behind the microphone. I said something like, "That stupid Skip Carey", or something like that. I know what you're thinking. With my awesome powers I set forth a chain reaction that ended Skip Carey's life 3 days later. I probably did, but I did so inadvertantly. So hello to Jack Buck for us Skip and thanks for the memories from when I was a kid plastered in front of the TV.
