In case you didn't know, Roberto Clemente got his 3000th hit on the last day of the 1972 season. Three months later he was on a plane to Nicaragua on a charity mission when his plane crashed. Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Ted Williams, Babe Ruth, and Ty Cobb are the first guys that people think of when they think of baseball players. Every one of them were terrible human beings. I wish they'd think of Roberto Clemente first. I know his 1972 Topps baseball card was my prize possession when I was a kid.
I find it interesting that you don't see Manny Ramirez on this list. **sarcasm**
Seriously, I do really find it interesting that Luis Gonzalez, a 40 year old (41 tomorrow) outfielder who signed a one year deal to be the fourth OF with Florida, is the Marlins representative. He was well known for his charity work in Phoenix when he was with the Diamondbacks and may have even been overshadowed by fellow teammate Tony Clark. Both are well known as nice guys of baseball. There are a lot of stories about whiny, million dollar athletes beating up their wives and girlfriends. You won't see any of these guys on the news for that.
Do them a solid and vote for your favorite.
