Today was a bittersweet day.
I turned in my resignation at Magellan Health Services where I have worked for the past seven years. I really, really enjoyed working there and I really love working with the people there, especially the fantastic people on my team that have made me look good for so long. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to them. Many of them sent me words of congratulations followed by many 'You suck' emails. Work life will be different now that I have to rely only on myself instead of my team. But, I felt I had run my course at Magellan and it was time to move on. In my mind there was little more that I could accomplish there. It was the safe bet to stay, but safe bets rarely pay big dividends.
The flip side of this is that I took a new job that will definitely be a riskier bet, but may turn out to pay huge dividends. I will be starting October 13th for Levi, Ray & Shoup, an IBM premier partner based out of Springfield, IL. My primary focus will be helping them build up a Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse practice using the full line of IBM products. Mostly I will be helping them sell solutions using Data Mirror, DB2, and most importantly Cognos. Rarely do you get to start something from the ground floor and almost never do you get to do so with an established company and the backing of technology behemoth like IBM. It was, quite simply, an opportunity too good to pass up. It doesn't hurt that they backed up a dump truck full of money too. ![]()
