What a hoot these guys (and gal) were. I was alerted to these guys several weeks ago and then my friend Nancy pointed out that they were doing an in store at Vintage Vinyl. Believe it or not, I've never been to an in store, so I didn't know what to expect. I sure didn't know what to expect from this band that's for sure.
What I got was a heapin' helpin' of raw hardcore blues with a bunch of punk sensability thrown in. Oh, and some sweet, sweet washboard from Breezy. Watching her wail on that thing with the tops of her tits heaving above her instrument made my instrument get out of tune. The Rev's brother pounded the skins which included a 5 gallon plastic bucket as a tom. And then there was Reverend Peyton who played a mean slide on guitars that looked like they came from Ben Franklin. (Both the store and the kite flyer) They played ditties with great titles like Your Cousin's on Cops, which evolved from seeing Breezy's cousin on the TV show Cops, DT's or the Devil, (three too many woo-hoo's/verse according to Nancy), and Mama's Fried Potatoes. It does not get any more trailer park than that my friends, and let me tell you it was as rich and creamy as a family size can of Dinty Moore beef stew.
Next time they are in Saint Louis, grab a couple of Pabst Blue Ribbon's and check 'em out. They're way better than the Coug.
